Fred Couch, an avid paddler from Anniston, organized
Alabama Scenic River Trail in 2007. In traveling around
the country, Couch realized his home state of Alabama
had world-class rivers that were not being used to their
full potential.
Seeing the opportunity to change this, Couch recruited
Jim Felder, a retiring marketer with experience in
advertising and in writing about the outdoors. Felder
saw a cause worth pursuing, and the two immediately
set to work creating partnerships with outdoor groups
across the state.
