Visitors to the Southern Museum of Flight can look
forward to enhanced exhibits in 2018 that include a
World War II era B-25 bomber. Thanks to a 2016 grant
from the Alabama Power Foundation, the museum
will be able to restore the aircra, which was used by
the 477th Tuskegee Bombardment Group at Tuskegee
Army Airfield in 1945 and 1946. This influential group of
aviators was known for its impact on racial integration
within the United States military, as well as its impact on
civil rights, well before the civil rights movement began.
"This bomber helps us tell a story of overcoming
obstacles and breaking down barriers," said Executive
Director Brian Barsanti. "That's a lesson for all ages,
even our K-5 visitors."
