Common Ground Montgomery (CGM) was founded in
2006 to revitalize the city's poverty-stricken Washington
Park community by investing in the next generation of
young people. "We provide a safe haven for kids most
at risk from the negative influence of the streets," said
Bryan Kelly, CGM executive director. "We offer the
physical space and the time for kids to run around and to
study, and for them to form healthy adult relationships."
Formerly a thriving center of the civil rights movement,
Washington Park has seen tremendous hardship in
recent decades, leading to widespread poverty and its
accompanying ills – crime, drugs and gang violence.
CGM seeks to reverse these generational problems
with long-term mentorship, Christian discipleship and
developmental programs.
