30 Growing Kings Provides Youths With Positive Male Role Models Since 2009, Growing Kings has worked to be a catalyst for change in the lives of Birmingham's underserved male youths. Eighty-five percent of the students Growing Kings supports live in single-parent households, oen led by mothers. Seeing the need for positive male role models, the organization developed the Journey of a King track, which gives students access to such relationships. Growing Kings has had a proven positive impact for 100% of the students who participated in the program for at least three years. The program's continuums follow a high school feeder program. A continuum engages 250 students enrolled across three elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. Funding from the Alabama Power Foundation supported 2016-2017 programming for one continuum within Birmingham City Schools.
