Growing Kings Provides Youths With
Positive Male Role Models
Since 2009, Growing Kings has worked to be a catalyst
for change in the lives of Birmingham's underserved
male youths.
Eighty-five percent of the students Growing Kings
supports live in single-parent households, oen led by
mothers. Seeing the need for positive male role models,
the organization developed the Journey of a King track,
which gives students access to such relationships.
Growing Kings has had a proven positive impact for
100% of the students who participated in the program
for at least three years.
The program's continuums follow a high school feeder
program. A continuum engages 250 students enrolled
across three elementary schools, two middle schools
and one high school. Funding from the Alabama Power
Foundation supported 2016-2017 programming for one
continuum within Birmingham City Schools.
