Since 1976, Urban Ministry has served inner-city
communities in Birmingham. In 1988, the organization
moved to West End and has since become an important
community fixture and resource for the residents of
that neighborhood.
Support from funders such as the Alabama Power
Foundation helps Urban Ministry offer unique
and valuable opportunities. The work and life
skills internship program is one example. Through
this program, young, chronically unemployed or
underemployed people have the opportunity to support
the organization and receive job training as paid interns.
