39 Since 1976, Urban Ministry has served inner-city communities in Birmingham. In 1988, the organization moved to West End and has since become an important community fixture and resource for the residents of that neighborhood. Support from funders such as the Alabama Power Foundation helps Urban Ministry offer unique and valuable opportunities. The work and life skills internship program is one example. Through this program, young, chronically unemployed or underemployed people have the opportunity to support the organization and receive job training as paid interns.
