7 L E T T E R F R O M M Y L A Since March of 2016, I have had the honor of serving as president of the Alabama Power Foundation and vice president of Charitable Giving for Alabama Power Company. In my roles, I'm privileged to work with an exceptional team of dedicated professionals, as well as great nonprofits and leaders in our philanthropic community. The foundation and its partners have been doing amazing work in Alabama for 28 years now. Since its inception in 1989, the Alabama Power Foundation has awarded more than $180 million through more than 20,000 grants and scholarships. And while we plan to continue supporting game-changing initiatives like top-notch educational programs and unique grant programs, we are most excited to partner with you to do more in ways that maer most. It is through this lens that the foundation will focus on further strengthening Alabama's nonprofit community and helping organizations become more sustainable and self-sufficient. Our annual Elevate conference will again be part of those efforts, offering our nonprofit partners a space to network and find ways to collaborate. And the Elevate grant program will continue to provide capacity-building workshops and additional networking opportunities to grantees. In addition, the Alabama Power Service Organization and the Energizers retiree group are commied to offering the valuable resource of time. Together, these groups volunteer nearly 100,000 hours each year to aid Alabamians in need. Please call on them if you need volunteers. I'm excited to share this Annual Report with you because it shows not only what the Alabama Power Foundation has done this past year, but what some of our partners have accomplished as well. Thank you for partnering with the Alabama Power Foundation. I know that, together, we're going to accomplish great things in our state.
