61 Power to Play is an annual athletics and arts grant program for high schools across Alabama. Both grants aim to increase participation in their respective extracurricular programs. Power to Play's arts grants were new to the program in 2016. The grant program is limited to schools that are determined to have an overall financial need. For purposes of this program, a school is determined to have a financial need if 50 percent or more of its full-time students receive free or reduced-price lunches. Power to Play Total for more than 100 Power to Play grants awarded since 2014 to support high school athletics programs $260,000 Launched in 2014, Students to Stewards helps give Alabama's students beer resources for stewardship education. The program awards two types of conservation education grants – curriculum grants and outdoor classroom grants – on a rotating annual basis. Curriculum grants provide up to $1,000 and can be used for field trips, teaching materials, to enhance environmental science curriculum and more. Outdoor classroom grants provide up to $7,500 and can be used to help schools build classrooms so students can participate in outdoor learning. Schools and organizations teaching environmental conservation are invited to apply. Students to Stewards Total for more than 40 Students to Stewards grants awarded since 2014 to support conservation education in Alabama $100,000 Grant Programs Each year, the Alabama Power Foundation partners with the state's public colleges to provide first-year teachers with grants for classroom materials and supplies. Candidate names are submied by these colleges, and recipients are selected by a commiee of representatives from these colleges. Each grant recipient is a graduate of a state-approved teacher program at an Alabama public four-year college or university.
