The Alabama Power Foundation was created in 1989 with funds donated
by Alabama Power shareholders. That seed money, along with additional
donations over the next seven years, came from voluntary contributions and
included no ratepayer dollars. Through wise management, the foundation's
assets have grown to more than $124 million. Foundation grants support a
variety of initiatives across Alabama. The Alabama Power Foundation is one
of the top five largest charitable foundations in the state of Alabama, and one
of the top 50 largest corporate foundations in the nation.
