16 EDUCATION Photography by Meg McKinney This spring, he was an umpire for Lile League games. "Connor is a very hard worker and a high achiever," said Patrick Gann, principal of Oakman High School. "He excels in all he does and is a leader for our students. I know he has worked diligently to get where he is today and will continue to do so in the future. His character, dedication to his family, church, school and community, as well as his personal perseverance, will carry him far in life." Connor works as a lifeguard at the Natatorium in Jasper. His free time is spent camping, hiking, swimming, wakeboarding or just "hanging" with friends. Posey said he and his wife, Rhonda, are proud of Connor for all he has accomplished, and grateful to Alabama Power for supporting their son. "Connor is a wonderful young man," said Posey. "If I had drawn up what I wanted my boy to be 17 years ago, Connor has gone way beyond what I could have imagined." "I'm so appreciative of my job at Alabama Power and of what the company has done for Connor," Posey said. "There's no doubt this scholarship is a blessing from the Lord." Alabama Power CEO Mark Crosswhite presented the scholarship to Connor at a luncheon at Corporate Headquarters on June 14. In recognition of his accomplishment, Connor's name will be listed with past scholarship winners on a plaque displayed in the Corporate Headquarters atrium. "It's an honor to recognize and support Connor," Crosswhite said. "This young man's work ethic, caring heart and dedication to his community are reasons to feel good about the future of our state." by Carla Davis • Katherine Free, Hoover High School, Phil Free, Corporate Headquarters. • Lindsey Hathcock, Bessemer Academy, Victoria Hathcock, West Jefferson. • Jacob Henry, Anniston Christian Academy, Michael Henry, Anniston. • Erica Johnson, Wilcox Academy, Ron Johnson, Miller Steam Plant. • Dylan Jordan, St. Luke's Episcopal School, Phil Jordan, Mobile-Michigan Avenue Complex. • Mark Leousis, Mary G.
