WIND CREEK STATE PARK
Lake Martin
One of the country's largest state-owned
campgrounds rests on the shoreline of Lake Martin –
Wind Creek State Park, stretching over 1,445 scenic
acres. Offering 586 campsites with water and electricity
and seven cabins, this place books fast, especially on
holiday weekends.
"Camping here is a community thing," Park
Superintendent Bruce Adams says. "ere is plenty of
room to spread out and we offer amenities like boat slip
rentals, a boat launch and a lot of other activities."
While the park is open year-round, Wind Creek is
busiest from March through October, with a two-day
Halloween carnival each year during the third weekend
of October that features a hay ride, carnival games and
pumpkin carving. In addition to the campgrounds,
Wind Creek offers a large day-use area with a
developed beach, swimming and fishing that attracts
anglers and tournaments year-round.
"Wind Creek is a valuable part of the community
and provides great public access to the lake. It's an
incredible economic boost to the area," Adams says.
