Participants received a recording of their sharing experience to use for their websites, blogs or social media. ……………… The Alabama Power Foundation awarded 41 Good Roots grants to recipients across Alabama. In partnership with the Alabama Forestry Commission and the Alabama Urban Forestry Association, the foundation provides Good Roots grants of up to $1,000 each to help cities, counties, schools, towns and nonprofit organizations plant trees. Good Roots helps beautify and strengthen communities with tree-planting projects that benefit the environment and support recreation and economic development efforts. The foundation has awarded more than $600,000 in Good Roots grants, benefiting hundreds of cities, counties, towns and nonprofit organizations. Good Roots is one of several grant programs funded by the foundation. AUGUST For the third time in four years, Alabama Power ranked No. 1 overall in Southern Company's 2017 Customer Value Benchmark study. The company finished first in Large Business and fourth in Residential categories and second in General Business. With the release of the overall results, Alabama Power received a score of 8.94 on a 10-point scale, which was a decrease from 9.02 in 2016, when APC ranked first. The company received the top overall CVB ranking in 2014, and was second in 2015 and from 2010 to 2013. The annual study ranks Southern Company, its four operating companies and 16 peer companies based on customer interviews and survey data. The overall score and ranking is based on a straight average of the scores for each company on the Residential, General Business and Large Business customer segments. …………………. Alabama Power Corporate Security helped secure Tannehill State Park by providing training to the park police and rangers. The Tannehill security force, under the direction of the Alabama Historic Ironworks Commission, is responsible for providing professional law enforcement services and protection to all park visitors, staff and more than 2,000 acres of cultural and natural history resources, including the Iron and Steel Museum. Alabama Power invested in a firearms training simulator that helps to hone an officer's "marksmanship skills and judgment training, which enhances the understanding of 'shoot/don't shoot' situations." With the support of APC management, the Corporate Security Team provides smaller agencies, like Tannehill, with access to the simulator and collaborative, hands-on training. ……………… Chapters of the Alabama Power Service Organization each year help students, teachers and schools statewide start their academic year. Employee efforts for 2017-18 included holding a cleanup day at Satsuma High School, where volunteers painted six classrooms and helped get the football facilities ready for the season. In Eastern Division, members donated school supplies in the Etowah County, St. Clair County and Sylacauga areas. Volunteers went to Eden Elementary School and Coosa Valley Elementary School to read "Giraffes Can't Dance" to a pre-K class at both schools. The chapter donated two Kindles to each classroom. Thanks to a partnership with the Capstone Clinic, the Gorgas Chapter provided new, fully supplied book bags to 750 Walker County schoolchildren.
