11 Robin East knows how to stay on target. Aer all, as a longtime competitor in archery, East knows she has to hit the mark to stay at the top of her game. East said her interest in competitive archery was sparked 13 years ago when her then-8-year-old son, Jackson, got involved in the sport. "Shooting a bow started out as a sport we could do together as a family," said East, customer service representative, Dadeville. "It has become a passion. I've fallen in love with the people who compete and the sport itself." East is among only a few women nationwide who compete with a crossbow in 3-D archery, which focuses on shooting at life-size, three-dimensional models of real game. Most weekends during the eight-month competition season, she is on the road traveling to shooting events, and has taken part in tournaments as far west as Texas and as far north as New York. East has won championship titles in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and South Carolina. In 2017, she was named the Archery Shooters Association (ASA) State Shooter of the Year for both Alabama and Georgia. When she's not traveling to a competition, East is at home perfecting her skills. She practices every day until it starts growing too dark to see the target. East said she is most grateful for the many lifelong friends she has made through the sport.
