38 HAPPY TRAILS MCGILL EXITS CAREER AFTER EARNING ACCOLADES OF MANY by Gilbert Nicholson A Real Pro The best way to describe the Alabama Power career of Liz McGill is to share what happened when her colleagues in Economic Development were asked to describe her. There were too many comments to fit. In fact, the page and a half of accolades and praises could have been an article all their own. "Her entire team has noted she is the most selfless person, professionally and personally, they have ever met," was the collective quote from the department. "Her dedication to the company was evident every day, both in and out of the office," said her boss, Patrick Murphy, vice president of Economic Development. McGill retired Feb. 9, just shy of 31 years, mostly spent as administrative analyst in the Corporate Secretarial department; administrative assistant to the Alabama Power Foundation; and later as executive secretary in Economic and Community Development. She coordinated small grants and projects in addition to her administrative responsibilities at the foundation, and provided support for the Economic and Community Development team. "People measure happiness in many ways," McGill said. "I found at Alabama Power, it wasn't the position I held that made me happy, but it was the people with whom I worked. I truly believe the Lord put me in every position I've served." Photos by Phil Free
