"is is a highly energy-efficient
home," said Eddie Hardee, Residential
energy specialist at Alabama Power.
Hardee said the home's efficiency
measures start in the attic with
spray foam on the attic decking, and
circle back under the home with
encapsulation. Dehumidifiers and
ventilation systems help to ensure
moisture stays out of the home. e
home also includes geothermal heat
pumps, energy-efficient appliances and
variable-speed pool motors.
"Regardless of the size or price range
of a home, you can employ techniques
in any home to ensure your home is
efficient," Hardee said. One of the most
beneficial and cost-efficient ways to
create a home that is sealed properly is
by caulking around windows and doors.
"Anytime wood meets wood, seal it
with caulk," he said. "Keeping air from
coming in or leaving the home is key to
lowering utility bills."
