urban landscapes all across the United States," said Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. "Service providers like Alabama Power demonstrate it's possible for trees and utilities to coexist for the benefit of communities and citizens." ………. A grant from the Alabama Power Foundation will help a Selma arts organization continue its work year-round. The $5,000 grant to ArtsRevive will assist with the installation of a new heating, ventilating and air conditioning system at its headquarters. ArtsRevive uses the space for art classes, exhibits and community events like the annual Kathryn Tucker Windham Tale-Tellin' Festival. ArtsRevive Executive Director Becky Youngblood said her organization has always been at the mercy of Mother Nature because the building doesn't have heating or air conditioning. MARCH Alabama Power employees helped restore electricity in the wake of a vicious nor'easter that blasted New England and the mid-Atlantic states. The employees who made the trip got a taste of what one is like as another storm hit the region while they were working. Alabama Power sent 28 evaluators to assess damage in Morristown, a central New Jersey city of 19,000 residents located between New York City and the Pennsylvania state line. The team including employees from all areas of Alabama was led by Johnnie Bailey, team leader in Power Delivery Technology. They assisted Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L), an operating company of First Energy. …………….. Alabama Power led the nation in J.D. Power's inaugural study of utility websites, mobile apps, social, chat, email and text functions. The J.D. Power 2018 Utility Digital Experience Study evaluated customer perceptions of the 67 largest electric, natural gas and water utilities in the United States. It is the first-ever J.D. Power customer satisfaction study to incorporate biometric analyses (which track eye movements, facial emotions and voice tone), video verbatim interviews and detailed surveying to extract real-world customer perceptions, the company said. Alabama Power scored 879 on a 1,000-point scale, followed by SRP with 872 points, MidAmerican Energy third at 870, and AEP and Atmos Energy tied for fourth with 866 points. Georgia Power was the only other Southern Company subsidiary in the top 30, scoring 853 for 15th place. The industry average, J.D. Power said, was 839 points. ………………….. After tornadoes and severe storms hit Jacksonville and nearby vicinities March 19, Alabama Power teams quickly set up miniature "cities" from which to mobilize line-crew members. Four staging areas – with large equipment and materials, trucks, refueling areas and dining tents – were set up almost overnight at Anniston's Fort McClellan, Gadsden Convention Hall, Oxford Convention Center and the Heflin Fairgrounds. "We supported the setup of four different staging areas by the afternoon on Tuesday, March 20," said Jackson Reynolds, administrative support coordinator - General Services. "Around 1,800 crew members from multiple states were called in to help restore power to our customers. Our General Services storm team helps provide the logistical support at staging areas, such as food, traffic control and transportation to hotels." APRIL Proving to fidgety ninth- grade students how their field of study relates to making electricity may seem like "Mission: Impossible." But the result of Alabama Power's LEAP Career Day was Mission: Accomplished, said Ramsay High School Career Academy Coordinator Ja'net Sharpe. LEAP stands for Linemen, Engineers and Apprentice Programs, and is an effort by Alabama Power to showcase to impressionable students what it's like to work in engineering and skilled trades. Some 90 ninth-graders from Ramsay, Tarrant and Montevallo high schools saw exhibits and toured facilities at 12th Street Crew Headquarters. Inviting Students toured 12th Street Crew Headquarters. APC earned Tree Line USA designation. 2
