75 In 2018, Alabama Power partnered with Bevill State Community College in the relocation and development of a state-of-the-art HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) Training Center in Jasper. The HVAC Training Center has 33,000 square feet of indoor facilities, including technology labs, seminar space and classrooms. There are six functional classrooms, six designated learning laboratory areas, offices and an auditorium that seats up to 100 participants. The outcome of this strong partnership with Bevill State will be long-term, high-value career growth for the current workforce and the next generation. Training and development are a constant for power generation employees – whether it's to enlist the best safety practices, provide skills advancement for technical experts and journeymen, create the foundational building blocks for apprentices or deliver developmental opportunities for engineers. By using internal instructors and subject matter experts and partnering with community colleges in our regions, we leverage the best resources for development during an employee's career. Through the utilization of custom- designed training aides and community college credit courses, employees completing the apprentice training programs are given credit toward a two-year degree. The journeymen programs focus on facilitating aptitude in changing technological advances that continue to strengthen existing knowledge and skills. Engineers take advantage of the vast array of programs available in technical and leadership development as they support the power generation business. The training and development collaborations with like-minded education and business leaders provide a workforce of qualified, diverse and prepared employees.
