Company and industry partners joined this summer
to dedicate an expanded and modernized Varnons
Training Center at the General Services Complex in
Calera. The center is one of four National Utility Industry
Training Fund (NUITF) regional training facilities and
the only one of its kind in the Southeast. Focused
on power delivery training, the renovated center has
50,000 square feet of indoor and in-the-field facilities,
including technology labs, seminar space, conference
and meeting rooms, 3-D applications and hands-on
training classrooms. The 50-acre site is continuing to
be expanded with plans to add another 30 acres of fully
equipped training fields and facilities that will provide
training in transmission and distribution, overhead
and underground.
