GIVE YOUR 1 ENERGY BILL A VACATION, TOO. 2 3 4 Turn up the temperature. Set your thermostat to 85 to 90 degrees while you are away. Close blinds and shades. But, keep open those on the front so your home does not appear vacant. Turn lights off except those needed for security. Consider an inexpensive timer to turn them on only in the evening. Unplug electronics. Televisions, stereos and other devices use energy even when not in use. Get more energy saving ideas for every room in your home. Cream together shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg, beating well. By hand, mix in dry ingredients, in order, and stir well after each addition. Stir together until smooth. Spoon into small balls, dip in sugar, then place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12-13 minutes. Leave cookies on sheet for a few minutes before removing.
