Alabama Power reached out to more than 30 social agencies recently to give billing options, energy efficiency tips and grant information the groups can share with clients in south Alabama. "In addition to providing a forum to communicate with agencies that serve many of our low-income customers, the meeting also provided opportunities for these agencies to network and communicate with one another," Saxon said. "Engaging with these groups helps us in our goal of remaining 100% Connected to the communities that we serve." Strategic Issues Program Manager Carolyn Newton said in addition to providing key company messages to the interagency audience, representatives of the Alabama Power Service Organization, Energizers and Charitable Giving made presentations. Prichard Office Manager Johnetta Jackson and Customer Service Representative Cynthia Tatum helped organize the Interagency Council's first meeting in more than a year. "It helped us develop going forward how to better serve this segment of our customers," Newton said. "This was a pilot forum for possible future community meetings across the state." Trinitius Pickett, director of the Center for Women & Children, said Alabama Power's partnership is important in the Interagency Council's effort to strengthen and support the social service community. Participating agencies included the American Red Cross, Alabama Department of Public Health, Baldwin County Council on Aging, Catholic Social Service Agencies, Family Promise, Franklin Primary Health Center, Goodwill, Housing First/ Division Area Manager Sam Covert Homeless Coalition, took part in the meeting. Mobile County Public School System, Mobile Housing Board, Mobile Mental Health, Penelope House, Prichard Housing Authority, Salvation Army, South Alabama Cares, United Methodist Inner City Mission, United Way and 15th Place Homeless Day Center. 7
