"We want to be dedicated to one sensory room a year, to do our best job," said Webb, Gaston chemical technician. Gorgas APSO's Dion Oliver, president in 2018 and 2019, said their group will support the backpack giveaway at the Jasper Civic Center. Last year, APSO members helped donate more than 1,000 backpacks. "When you see the look of relief on the faces of kids and parents, it's awesome, I love it," said Oliver, Gorgas assistant plant operator. Southern Division APSO will refocus on helping U.S. veterans through Support Our Troops, said chapter President Katrina Davis. "I really want to do something for our veterans and reconnect with them, to help those who don't have support," said Davis, customer services specialist. "There are lots of vets who don't have family to help them." Members will continue to provide snacks and drinks for the Montgomery Cancer Center, where patients receive APSO's year-round support. "Even though we're not there face to face, we're providing sustenance for them at a difficult time," Davis said. "We want people in difficult or challenging situations to know they're not alone.
