"Now I know how to establish a sensory room on a budget," said Maudsley, who recruited Brad Wilson of Pier One Piledriving to install the swings. The walls were painted a calming shade of blue, compliments of Sherwin-Williams. Jones was pleased to see the sensory room come together. "We knew this is something we definitely wanted to do," said Jones, training coordinator - Accounting, Eastern Division Office. "Everything has come together so beautifully. We are so thankful to all the people who pitched in their time and energy and donated things to this project. I can't wait to see pictures of the kids interacting in the room, because I know it's going to be an awesome time." MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN NEW WAYS Several APSO chapters have planned new projects and unique fundraising efforts for 2019. Mobile APSO President Drew Odom and his team are planning a first-time continental pheasant hunt. "We want to do something different and tap into a different group of folks who can help sponsor us," Odom said. Dennis Lake Wing Club in Bay Minee will provide the hunting site and the birds. Mobile APSO will offer several layers of sponsorship. Mobile APSO will continue its fall golf tournament, sell Senior Bowl tickets and parking for the Ten65 Music Festival and Mardi Gras. Several members in January partnered in a new undertaking with the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, installing rain barrels to alleviate urban flooding for underserved homeowners in the Prichard area. Miller APSO is puing new ideas and projects in place, including an electronic newsleer, said chapter President Kevin Chappell. "There's a huge sense of community in our plant," said Chappell, electrical and instrumentation journeyman. "My vision is to sink more into the local community, and let employees know about how to get more active and know what we are doing. I want to get a newsleer to let our employees know about all of our projects – APSO may be helping your grandparents." This year, Miller members will help in a workday at the new City of Lights Dream Center in Dora, whose goal is to eradicate addiction and poverty. Magic City APSO President Kaylon Mikula has big plans for the inaugural year of the Top Golf Tournament in Birmingham on April 11. With an eye on a $25,000 prize – Magic City's planned gi to Backpack Buddies and its yearly Toy Drive – Mikula has high hopes that volunteers will raise money to help meet the needs of the Birmingham community.
