EDUCATION Twenty-two exceptional students earn scholarships The Alabama Power Foundation has awarded merit- based scholarships to 22 exceptional students who will attend college, trade or technical schools. The Class of 2022 is the 31st in a row to receive the college scholarships, which are awarded annually to top-performing children of active, retired or deceased employees. The scholarships are renewable for up to three years. Students must be a high school senior or postsecondary graduate to be eligible for a scholarship. Selection criteria include academic achievement, leadership, community service and participation in extracurricular activities. Recipients were selected by an independent company. Since 1991, the foundation has awarded more than $4 million in scholarships, setting more than 1,200 students on a path toward success.
