Demand Side Management (DSM) at Alabama Power is a strategic approach to shaping when and how electricity is used – working alongside customers to reduce peak demand and support long-term system planning. Our DSM team develops and implements customer programs that increase customer control and flexibility in managing their energy use. These programs help reduce peak load, improve grid operations, and defer or avoid the need for new generation and infrastructure. Demand Side Management Driving Value Through Customer-Centric Load Management 2024 IMPACT REPORT Edward Eskridge plays a key leadership role on the DSM team, managing multiple programs and serving as the program manager for Smart Peak Rewards, Alabama Power's residential smart thermostat demand response offering. Under his direction, the program has grown to over 45 MWs under management with over 22,000 customers enrolled, distributed across our service territory. Edward's leadership has helped ensure the program delivers meaningful value to both the company—by reducing peak demand and improving system reliability—and to customers through incentives and enhanced control over their energy use. His proactive coordination with vendors and internal stakeholders has positioned Smart Peak Rewards as a model for scalable, customer-centric demand response.
