"It is important for Alabama Power
to support projects like 4-H RiverKids
that focus on water safety and educating
our youths about our waterways
and how to protect them while also
integrating physical activity and fun,"
Felton says. "These types of projects
not only impact today's youths, but can
also have a long-lasting impact on our
communities as our children are taught
to be safer around water and become
better stewards of our waterways and
environment as a whole."
Nichols, the ACES official
overseeing RiverKids, expects the
program continue to grow.
"The future is bright," she says.
"With an increasing demand for
outdoor recreational opportunities
and a history of successful youth
development, Alabama 4-H is well-
positioned to continue to educate
citizens on responsible paddling, water
resources and stewardship.
"Continued support from
generous donors like the Alabama
Power Foundation will enable us to
broaden our reach and empower more
youths to get outside and explore
their surroundings."
