31 Blount County Education Foundation Keeps Learning Alive in Summer In the summer of 2016, the Blount County Education Foundation hosted a six-week learning program at Susan Moore Elementary School in Blountsville. The program, which emphasized healthy living and academics, served more than 100 students. Participants were given two balanced meals per day, and the curriculum incorporated academics as well as programming that included dance, music and art. "It's so exciting to be a part of the program. When I was in the lunchroom every morning during the program, I saw the faces of students and teachers witnessing the results of their hard work," said Mitchie Neel, of the Blount County Education Foundation. "My job as executive director is to look for grants and to make these things happen. And, boy, when it comes together with this kind of success, it makes me feel amazing!" The Blount County Education Foundation has served the community since 1998. The foundation has awarded more than $1.5 million to various projects and programs in local schools, including classroom grants, tutoring, summer programs, library enhancements, spelling bees and conferences. Education Total awarded to school programs and initiatives since 1998 $1.5 million
