and stabilized the person until paramedics arrived.
On March 13, Weber was eating lunch in Irondale
when someone yelled that a woman was choking
and needed help. After several attempts by other
people, Weber successfully performed the Heimlich
maneuver on the woman and enabled her to
breathe.
On June 5, in Seattle, Washington, while
attending a conference, Perkins was speaking with
a colleague when he noticed a man across the room
motioning he was choking on food. Perkins stepped
over and performed the Heimlich maneuver and
cleared the person's airway.
On Aug. 28, Harvey and Marbut were attending
a meeting at Corporate Headquarters. While eating
lunch, a colleague became unable to breathe due to
choking on food. Both men performed the Heimlich
maneuver, eventually dislodging the obstruction.
The Presidential Award of Honor was established
in 1985 by the Central Safety Committee.
Nominations are submitted by executive
management and approved by the committee.
