Power of good Powered by Alabama Power | 2015 Vol. 4 the power of good Powered by AlABAmA POweR 2015: The year in review This year, the Alabama Foundation funded more than 812 organizations across the state of Alabama. With total giving of $10,049,495, this was the second highest year of giving since the foundation was created in 1989. Since its inception, the foundation has given more than $140 million in nonratepayer dollars through more than 20,000 grants and scholarships. Additionally, the Alabama Service organization (APSO), comprised of com- pany volunteers, and the Energizers, Alabama Power's retiree organization, give back to the state through service and fundraising. APSO In 2015, APSO donated about 50,000 volunteer hours to communities, schools and nonprofits across the state. Additionally, donations made by APSO's 10 chapters across the state totaled about $350,000. ENErGIzErS This year, the Energizers, a volunteer group of Alabama Power retirees and their spouses, donated more than 40,000 volunteer hours to communi- ties, schools and nonprofits across the state. Additionally, donations made by the Energizers' 11 chapters across the state totaled more than $45,000. The Energizers had great success advocating for Project Lifesaver, which provides bracelets with transmitters to help locate people with cognitive disabilities who become lost. By the end of 2015, every county in Alabama will be on board and trained with Project Lifesaver. As 2015 winds down, I hope you can take a few minutes to review this special issue of Power of Good, a snapshot of Alabama Power Charitable Giving programs' efforts this year. Each grant mentioned in this report is touching lives and improving com- munities. Among the numbers you'll see: • The Alabama Power Foundation awarded more than $10 million in nonratepayer dollars for grants and scholarships, the second-highest total in our 26 years. We also awarded more grants this year than in any of the past five years as we continue moving toward awarding smaller grants to more agencies and urging cooperation and collaboration between them. • We expanded this year's Elevate program, with each winner receiving a $10,000 grant, a $5,000 grant from TechBridge to help with technology needs, and a $5,000 challenge grant next year. All winners will take part in workshops to help them grow and find ways to increase their capacity for helping. • The Alabama Power Service Organization and the Energizers retiree program be- tween them provided more than 90,000 hours of volunteer work in 2015. Put another way, that's like someone working 24 hours a day every day for more than 10¼ years to improve the places we live and work. I am proud of our great work, but we couldn't do what we do without great non- profit partners. You do much of the heavy lifting that is vitally important in a state with so many needs. Thank all of you for your hard work and dedication. Happy holidays!
